Just a normal night in this cowboy town as people fight in lines at stores to grab hold of last minute gifts. Tensions are high and people are in a hurry to get everywhere but all the while getting nowhere. The Christmas spirit is lost in the crowd of materialism and self-absorption. It’s a dangerous game that continues to intensify as the years go on without Christ at the center of it all. Our world is in a perpetual state of unbelief and we wear shirts that say “I Want To Believe” and those shirts are talking about a big huge guy in a red suit and not the Savior of the world.
So picture this…we are just driving along minding our business and laughing about our day as we traverse through the hustle and bustle of fast paced drivers completely unaware of their surroundings as they take home screaming kids who are on in their own lane headed straight for the “Naughty List” before they even get home to their own driveway. It is EPIC to watch and see the movement in this seemingly orchestrated crescendo as we circle the mall…then it happens…a near inevitable crash as we come upon a young gentleman on a skateboard in the middle of this cacophony.
Something inside of me says, “Warn him.” We obeyed…begrudgingly…and rolled the window down to have a conversation with this teenage rebel without a cause. What happened next was the personification of the world and its attitude toward prophecy in this day and age.
Our words, “Son, you might want to consider getting yourself a vest. We almost hit you because we couldn’t see you in the dark.”
The young man replied, “People can see me just fine when they shine their lights in my direction.”
“But young man, when lights are shining at us from the opposite direction, you are completely unseen in the shadow and you are traveling in the middle of someone else’s lane.”
The young man full of his infinite wisdom decided at that point to put his fingers in his ear and proceeded to yell at us…”BLAH BLAH BLAH!!! This is how I do it every single day! You can’t stop me from doing what I want…I am NOT breaking the law!!”
1) Are you stuffing your ears because you are ok being in someone else’s lane and riding the wind behind folks in the shadow?
2) Are you the one screaming at the one sounding the alarm because this is how you always do things, you are perfectly content in your mess, and you don’t care to hear that you may be in the wrong?
3) Are you even willing to sound the alarm if you see a brother or sister acting foolishly to the point of their eventual, avoidable PAIN?
What is your excuse? BLAH BLAH BLAH…yeah…that’s what Jesus wants to hear…said NOBODY…
Dear friend, please take your fingers out of your ears, listen to the voice that is convicting, turn from your ways, then help others…PLEASE…don’t be afraid to speak TRUTH in LOVE…
Ezekial 33:1-10 – Once again a message came to me from the Lord: 2 “Son of man, give your people this message: ‘When I bring an army against a country, the people of that land choose one of their own to be a watchman. 3 When the watchman sees the enemy coming, he sounds the alarm to warn the people. 4 Then if those who hear the alarm refuse to take action, it is their own fault if they die. 5 They heard the alarm but ignored it, so the responsibility is theirs. If they had listened to the warning, they could have saved their lives. 6 But if the watchman sees the enemy coming and doesn’t sound the alarm to warn the people, he is responsible for their captivity. They will die in their sins, but I will hold the watchman responsible for their deaths.’
7 “Now, son of man, I am making you a watchman for the people of Israel. Therefore, listen to what I say and warn them for me. 8 If I announce that some wicked people are sure to die and you fail to tell them to change their ways, then they will die in their sins, and I will hold you responsible for their deaths. 9 But if you warn them to repent and they don’t repent, they will die in their sins, but you will have saved yourself.
10 “Son of man, give the people of Israel this message: You are saying, ‘Our sins are heavy upon us; we are wasting away! How can we survive?’ 11 As surely as I live, says the Sovereign Lord, I take no pleasure in the death of wicked people. I only want them to turn from their wicked ways so they can live. Turn! Turn from your wickedness, O people of Israel! Why should you die?”
