What does “rest” look like to you? How do you relax? What helps you to recover your strength? Rest for me is hard. I struggle against being still on a daily basis. My thoughts are constantly in a quest for answers. The “To-Do” List is astronomical.

rest3Please. God, SHOW ME! Please, HELP ME SEE! Please, make me understand what is to come! PLEASE, don’t leave me! I just want ONE glimpse of the promise, even though I know the promise I still can’t see it. PLEASE!”

Does that sound familiar? Where is the faith in that? Faith is the evidence of things not seen, a confident assurance of what we know to be true in our hearts. Can we see when the bird lays it’s egg in a nest high in a tree on a beautiful spring morning as the dew peaks on the blades of grass before being sucked into the atmosphere by the rising sun? Can we see into the air as rays of that morning sun travel through space and warm our planet with light? Do we know what that looks like? Can we see the formation of stars in our own galaxy as God speaks them forth? Can we hear the songs of the planets as they move through time and space at one command from their Creator? Can we hear their tune in praise? But we believe! Why is it so hard to know and believe in those things even though we can’t tangibly see them taking place but we cannot believe in the promises God has for our very own lives?

Rest…a state of calm rising from a beautiful heart that is deeply rooted in God.

rest4Rest can be man-made while sitting on the beach, drinking a cup of coffee from the front porch, lying by a waterfall, closing your eyes when they are weak, or just being still, but where is your HEART? What is your mind doing during your fabricated moments of rest? Are you at peace with the promise? Do you believe you are who God says you are? Well, you SHOULD! Why wouldn’t you? We have proof and assurance of God’s presence with us always and it RESTS in the Book you hold and turn to daily…the BIBLE. Jesus promises to show Himself to those who believe. Don’t rest in unbelief. Rest is His goodness!

Galatians 3:1-14 – You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. 2 I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law,or by believing what you heard? 3 Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh? 4 Have you experienced so much in vain—if it really was in vain? 5 So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard? 6 So also Abraham “believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”

faith87 Understand, then, that those who have faith are children of Abraham.8 Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.” 9 So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

10 For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, as it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.” 11 Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God, because “the righteous will live by faith.” 12 The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, it says, “The person who does these things will live by them.” 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.” 14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

rest1Are you the man, once full of joy and a delight to be around, now riddled with judgment and guilt? Is your once infectious attitude gone and friends are drawing away from you, not feeling worthy of being in your presence? Are the the woman, your whole life being told that you would never amount to anything, never hearing a word of encouragement from friends and family? In your desperate attempt to feel loved, you made one bad decision after another which only made the condemnation worse. You aren’t even crying out to Jesus anymore because of your feelings of loneliness and despair. There is GOOD NEWS! You don’t get to heaven by works of the flesh. Your performance does not make God love you more or less. He loves you IN SPITE of you! REST EASY my friend!

faith5Hebrews 11:1-10 – Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were commended for. 3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. 4 By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead. 5 By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: “He could not be found, because God had taken him away.” For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. 6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. 7 By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith. 8 By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. 9 By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.

God IS who He says He is, and God DOES what He says He will do! His Word has AWESOME power! He did it for all of them! Why can’t He do it for you?
