Acts 14:21-23 – They preached the gospel in that city and won a large number of disciples. Then they returned to Lystra, Iconium and Antioch, 22 strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said. 23 Paul and Barnabas appointed elders for them in each church and, with prayer and fasting, committed them to the Lord, in whom they had put their trust.
In whom they had put their trust….in the LORD. What happened to the days of commitment through handshakes, when you could buy a loaf of bread and some eggs on your WORD? What happened to the days when trust wasn’t an issue and when you made a vow with someone, that vow stood firm. When did people start back-biting, jabbing others with their words behind their backs? When did we lose TRUST in those God placed before us? Why do we get so prideful that we look down upon others as if we know it all? It’s not what we are called to do. Jesus is Love, through and through, and if Christ truly dwells within us, then why is there no Love? Are you sometimes a Pharisee, thinking only of the law and not grace? Have you forgotten that we as humans fail, not only ourselves, but others every day?
The truth hurts, so what are we to do? Recognition and humble submission to the truth is the first step to repentance. Those people in spiritual authority who God has placed in those positions have something for us, so why do we chastise and hurt them? Why do we act better than others who may not be in spiritual authority but are just walking this thing out with fear and trembling? Why? That is darkness. We place our trust in our Father, we all have the same Holy Spirit, and we all go through hardships for the betterment of the Kingdom of God. So stop with the madness of insinuations and half-truths. PUT ON LOVE and realize that it’s not about YOU, or ME. If we can come together, LIVES will be changed forever and people will come to salvation through the testimony of many witnesses. What an awesome calling and a beautiful opportunity that is laid before us!!

We are not given license to start a lynch mob against anyone who isn’t playing by our rules. We are not to start destructive gossip trains just to take people out. It’s to reconcile those who are in disagreement, amicably, not irrationally. Let’s not seek revenge, find hate in our hearts, and slander those in our presence. Our ultimate goal is to live in harmony.
