Some people NEED to doubt before they can believe. It doesn’t make it right but we all have our own process. Doubt means to lack confidence in, to consider unlikely, to uncertain, not affording assurance of the worth, soundness, or certainty of something. Wow! The word “doubt” doesn’t seem all that bad until you look it from this perspective. If doubt leads to questions, and questions to eventual answers, and those answers are then accepted, then doubt has done a good work. When doubt turns to stubbornness, unbelief, and pride, it harms faith.
John 20:24-29 – Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” 26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” 28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”
I love to question things, and I am a doubter. I pray every single day for God to help me with my unbelief. I don’t believe in good things for myself even when the evidence of good things surround me at every turn. I have good purpose, I don’t hesitate to follow Jesus, and I am a loyal friend. Doubt is like one foot poised to step forward or backward based on answers to posed questions, but here is no motion until that foot comes down.
Do I allow Jesus to bring me to the side of belief and deepen my faith, or do I give up and walk away from promises that keep me going? I hate to admit that I will be the first one to sabotage the good in my life. So sad. Why would I doubt that the Creator the Universe has my best interest at heart? If I follow all the commands given to me by God, then HE will give me clear understanding later. I have to build my life COMPLETELY around worship and forget about my doubts.
I am ready to take a step in another direction, toward Him alone. You know, it’s better to doubt out loud than to disbelieve in silence. Accountability is key. God will bring beauty out of the ashes!

Romans 4:20– Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God
We can’t always see the end result and sometimes, even though we know the promise, we still question it and wonder about how it will come to pass. This is where trust comes into play. Trust in the Lord always!
