Journal Entry from Jacob’s Well, September 3rd, 2014.
“My perfectionism is coming out again. I’ve been in Picayune so long that any day now I expect them to move me. If the store is a mess, then it falls back on me. If I could do all the cleaning, remember to cut off all the lights, check to make sure all the clothes are in order, lock all the doors, and everything else that goes into this store by myself then I would…just to keep from having to ask anyone else to do it. It all comes from the fear of rejection. The other managers that could possibly come behind me are known to be overly critical. I just want them to like and appreciate me and not pick me apart for the small stuff. Isn’t that life, though? Out there in the world, people are tough. They don’t care where I came from, what got me where I am, and how hard I had to fight for my place in this world. But perfectionism does nothing more than hold the people around me in bondage to my self-imposed standards and unrealistic goals of performance. This battle I am in isn’t a secret to God. He knows full well the struggle I face.
Proverbs 10:4 – Lazy hands make for poverty,
but diligent hands bring wealth.
Proverbs 11:2 – When pride comes, then comes disgrace,
but with humility comes wisdom.
Here is the thing, folks. Our hands may be diligent, but are our hearts? Pride and ego are NOT my friends (even though they rear their ugly heads from time to time). A humble heart goes a LONG way when trying to win souls for the Kingdom of God!

Romans 12:8 – if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
We ALL have a part to play in this life, to fulfill the purpose God has for each of us. We are NOT to sit idly by and wait for others to do the job He has called us to! We are NOT guaranteed tomorrow, so whether you are the hand or the foot, are you being diligent with the things of the Lord?
