distress1So many things come against us, even we come against ourselves, and we put ourselves in prisons of our own making. We quickly blame the enemy of this world for our trouble and move on with life, putting on a happy face to fool the world and the people in it in order to just get by. However, we can see what is really going on and sometimes it’s our own rebellion that got us to this place of darkness and gloom. That is one of the hardest things to admit.

Psalm 107:10-12 – Some sat in darkness, in utter darkness,
prisoners suffering in iron chains,
11 because they rebelled against God’s commands
and despised the plans of the Most High.
12 So he subjected them to bitter labor;
they stumbled, and there was no one to help.

distress3Who would ever think that God would dare give us over to get a full dose what it is we think we wanted? Isn’t He a God who saves? But when we are rebellious, what is He to do?

Psalm 107:13-16 – Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
and he saved them from their distress.
14 He brought them out of darkness, the utter darkness,
and broke away their chains.
15 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for mankind,
16 for he breaks down gates of bronze
and cuts through bars of iron.

distress2God wants to be the one who saves us from our distress! Are you sick of wandering? Are you tossed about by the waves of uncertainty? Are you locked up in the prison of your mind? No matter how bad things get, God is able to help you and then He wants you to tell others of your freedom! God’s love extends to the most rebellious of captives! But don’t allow your rebellion to become such a heavy burden. If we don’t fall, how will we know when to cry out for help? And if people come along and help us, then Jesus can’t do His work in us! We need to remember where our help comes from!

Psalm 107:20-22 – He sent out his word and healed them;
he rescued them from the grave.
21 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for mankind.
22 Let them sacrifice thank offerings
and tell of his works with songs of joy.

To further your reading, consider this from:

Jonah 2:2 – He said: “In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry.

He hears our cries for help, but we must humble ourselves first to recognize that we NEED His help!
