A heart, beating rhythmicallly inside a chest of a human soul, something we dare think about,the pulsating red muscle that gives us life and blood. Our hearts beat for our lives, our loves, our desires. It slows down when we are rest, and it speeds up during moments of excitement and joy, and even fear. It directs the path of every vessel that leads to every organ that we rely on for our life.
Our hearts are flesh, they can be deceived, they can lose the war against our minds in an instant flat if we let them. Our hearts can forget the ONE who sustains us, they can become hardened as we resist God’s will and succumb to temptation. Our hearts can turn on us when we start to believe that God cannot do what He said, that we are not who He says we are, that He was wrong when He chose us. A hard heart is callous, useless, and stubborn in all its ways.
Psalm 95:1-11 – Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
2 Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with music and song.
3 For the Lord is the great God,
the great King above all gods.
4 In his hand are the depths of the earth,
and the mountain peaks belong to him.
5 The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands formed the dry land.
Today, if only you would hear his voice,
8 “Do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah,
as you did that day at Massah in the wilderness,
9 where your ancestors tested me;
they tried me, though they had seen what I did.
10 For forty years I was angry with that generation;
I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray,
and they have not known my ways.’
11 So I declared on oath in my anger,
‘They shall never enter my rest.’”
Envision this beating, beautiful red heart inside you. Each choice made out of the will of God turns just a small piece of that heart a dark grey. Gone now are positive thoughts, the things you used to enjoy aren’t peaceful anymore, you complain a bit more than normal and you question everything. Another choice is made outside of the will of God. Another chamber in your heart has now grown cold and dark. The rest of your beautiful red heart is crying out for change, for recognition of what is taking place, for HELP! Now you sleep longer than normal, your quiet time with the Lord is interrupted, you don’t really care about the things that used to bring you happiness, your routine is interrupted. Another choice is made outside of the will of God, now it is a series of choices because it has become easy to try to convince others around you that you are ok when in essence you are falling apart. You have allowed the heart to succumb to the mind, it is almost completely dark now, only a bit of red desperately trying to hold on. Every choice made at this point is out of complete disobedience and deception. Lies are the new normal. You have resisted God long enough and you dare anyone to tell you that you are wrong. There is HOPE!! There is an answer! There is a way out of this to allow your heart to beat again. It is called WORSHIP! In order to free yourself from the bondage of a hardened heart, which in all essence is a CHOICE YOU made, you must find a way back to gratitude and WORSHIP! Jesus paid it all, so that you wouldn’t have to suffer anymore. It’s all in your mind and we have the power to take EVERY thought captive!

To further your reading, consider this from:
2 Corinthians 10:5 – We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
If we are walking with the Lord, or claiming that we are walking with the Lord, then WE KNOW when our thoughts are not God’s thoughts and we are stepping precariously on the edge of His will. It’s in THAT moment we must turn those thoughts into action and take them captive. It’s a CHOICE. ALWAYS.
