Psalm 91:2 – I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
There is a storm brewing outside. The sky becomes very dark and ominous as the firmament is filled quickly with the fullness of foreboding black clouds. The wind picks up its pace as if it know what is to come as is running from it. As it blows through the trees, leaves are scattered unwillingly along the ground, around and around in circles they go, ripped from their places of rest. The rain comes in sheets now, watering the grass and bringing much needed life to vegetation that the summer heat had forgotten about. The clouds above grow darker, they sky turns a green haze. There it is, the tornado that is snaking out of the sky, looming overhead as its single tenticle reaches from the heavens toward the ground threatening to destroy everything in its path.
There is no where to turn to escape, so I just close my eyes and expect to be swept away. As it gets closer, the rain stops and there is a calm before this storm. I know now not to get complacent or excited in that calm, still air. The stillness does not mean the storm is gone. As I stand in the path of this giant force, I wonder where it is going to sweep me off to. Is it going to destroy me? Maime me? Kill me? I brace for the wind that will change me forever, as its swirling mass of huge, leftover debris, dirt, and junk come upon me. This is the end…
But wait!! I open my eyes. Where am I? My feet are still firmly planted on the ground! The winds of change are sweeping around me! I can see as I turn in a circle the debris of chaos, confusion, rejection, fear, helplessness, abandonment, doubt, and insecurity are all around me. The winds are blowing, but I am safe and at peace in the center of the storm.

Isaiah 4:6 – There will be a shelter to give shade from the heat by day, and refuge and protection from the storm and the rain.
The Lord is our shelter and relief in times of trouble. We can turn to Him for comfort and help.
