When I was younger, we were subject to many “counseling” sessions to help us with our dad’s imprisonment and eventual suicide. I despised those sessions. The first moment I had to sit through one, I knew that I could never trust a human being who had not walked in my shoes. I immediately had an attitude problem in regards to the poor man of God sitting across from me. How could I listen to someone who had not been where I was now walking, completely in the fire, destined to fall from grace?
Psalm 66:8-12 – Praise our God, all peoples,
let the sound of his praise be heard;
9 he has preserved our lives
and kept our feet from slipping.
10 For you, God, tested us;
you refined us like silver.
11 You brought us into prison
and laid burdens on our backs.
12 You let people ride over our heads;
we went through fire and water,
but you brought us to a place of abundance.
My feet are now being kept from slipping as I walk out my salvation and I think on my very first counseling session with gratitude, but I still believe that there is NO ONE on earth more qualified to snatch other souls from the fire unless they, too, have walked through it and come out on the other side still smelling like smoke. God ALLOWS us to hurt, so they we in turn can help others who also hurt. God puts us through refinement, melting away the impurities of our lives with each dip into the hot, boiling inferno so that we can be pure and more like Christ. God ALONE lays burdens on our backs and we so quickly want to blame the enemy, but it is only for our good. From the fire to the water, hot to cold, but never lukewarm! It is all to the glory of God that we SURVIVE these ups and downs, these painful moments, these irrational mile markers in our lives that make us want to throw in the towel and give up! Your pain is different from my pain and that is different from her pain which is different from his pain, but it’s all so we can bring others to the PRAISE of what it means to be set free from the entaglements of life! PRAISE GOD and help others!

1 Peter 1:6-7 – In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
When our lights shine into the darkness, we will face trials for the darkness hates the light. When we are refined, we are strengthened in our faith and in our walk with Christ and through that we become living, breathing, walking testimonies to what Christ alone can do!
