Distractions come sometimes in the form of accusations. Nothing is more frustrating than trying to defend oneself agains an onslaught of untrue statements. Many times, people’s perceptions are just that…a way of dealing with an unpleasant event by creating a conceived notion that things are a way that they are not. It’s an interpretation of what they THINK is happening and not what is really happening.
Nehemiah 6:5-9 – Then, the fifth time, Sanballat sent his aide to me with the same message, and in his hand was an unsealed letter 6 in which was written:
“It is reported among the nations—and Geshem says it is true—that you and the Jews are plotting to revolt, and therefore you are building the wall. Moreover, according to these reports you are about to become their king 7 and have even appointed prophets to make this proclamation about you in Jerusalem: ‘There is a king in Judah!’ Now this report will get back to the king; so come, let us meet together.” 8 I sent him this reply: “Nothing like what you are saying is happening; you are just making it up out of your head.” 9 They were all trying to frighten us, thinking, “Their hands will get too weak for the work, and it will not be completed.” But I prayed, “Now strengthen my hands.”
We must remain steadfast in our responsibility, no matter what words are sent flying in our direction from people who are sent only to distract from our purpose. We must NOT give in to repeated pressure as our defenses seem to weaken under the strain. No enticement is good when it is not based on biblical principles and lies. We can trust God with our reputation when we are taking care of our character. Innuendos and intimidation come only from fearful people. Don’t be distracted from the Truth which is the Word of God.

Ephesians 6:12 – For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
The struggle is very real, but we must see past the people and into the spiritual realms. The Holy Spirit is within us and will not allow us to fail.
