1 Chronicles 4:9-10 – Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, “I gave birth to him in pain.” 10 Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request.

addicted1Are you addicted to your story of pain? I was for YEARS. I made sure anyone who was in earshot knew of the suffering I endured. It was my sick reason for justifying my irrational and erratic behavior.

Jabez’s name meant “Pain”. Jabez’s ppor mother never allowed him or anyone else for that matter forget how she brought him into the world…in PAIN.

In all the names we read in these four chapters, what makes Jabez stand out in the crowd? PRAYER!!!

addicted2Are we praying, or are we complaining? I bet Jabez had a LOT to complain about, especially while listening intently to his mother tell the SAME STORY over and over to whomever would listen about the pain he caused her. How come we define ourselves in such narrow and limiting ways by giving identification to the problem instead of thanking God for the process? Are we doing as Jabez did and remembering the promises of God and asking Him to bless us so that we in turn can be a blessing or are we chasing down the wrong and speaking negatively over every circumstance? God always wants us to see beyond our current circumstance and envision the Promised Land so our territories can be enlarged, but the first territory we must conquer is the space between our own ears.

addicted3So many wonderful things have happened in my life since I let go of my story addiction. These are blessings that only the Lord could have manifested and His hand is clearly seen in my NEW story. Are you praying for supernatural blessings in YOUR life that could only point back to Him? Jabez wanted his life to be a blessing, not a curse. He did not want to cause any more pain by taking on the story and legacy of his mother. We cause God pain every time we sin. Being addicted to our story of pain strips us of God’s blessing and destroys our destiny. Pain is inevitable. It’s what is done with the pain that either propels us forward or keeps us in a pit of regret.

Matthew 6:13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

We are tempted when we give heed to our own evil desires. We cannot be tempted by God. It is SO tempting sometimes to just complain and speak negatively over every situation that causes us to cringe, but we have this prayer we can pray daily.
