1 Samuel 30:6 – David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.

giveup1We all deserve a break now and again and we all should take breaks, but none of us are free to take a break from our relationship with God. Bereavement is everywhere we look. People I know are struggling against infertility, unemployment, financial ruin, health difficulties, marriages on the rocks, and so on. If we are prisoners of our feelings, then is there a way out of that prison? Can we hope for an early release? Who is the warden and can we get hold of the keys?
Discouragement is a feeling that comes upon many people at different times in their lives. How we choose to handle it can affect our spiritual life and growth. Some of us seem to experience a spiritual struggle when they are unwell when God seems distant to them and they walk by faith alone. But is that when we are to throw in the towel and put God by the wayside? NO!

giveup2David sets a fine example for us to follow. When our confidence is lost, when we are surrounded by devestation caused by us or thers, when our bodies and mind are tired and our nerves are frayed, we have to find strength in God alone. Don’t allow your vision to become distorted so you do not see things in their trues perspective.

To help overcome discouragement we need to deliberately get into the presence of God and tell him how we feel. David went through and came out of a time of great personal difficulty and discouragement. With God’s help so can you.

Lamentations 3:25-26 – The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; 26 it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

We must wait patiently on the Lord. Are we being patient? Are we still complaining? What are we doing in our moments of rest and even in our moments of uncertainty? God’s ways are always higher than our ways!
