test1So many people have the “My way, or the highway” mentality. Why don’t we just listen to what the Lord is telling us? The book of Judges begins a RAPID decline of morality due to individual and corporate sin. The Israelites refused to remove the enemy as God said and instead they chose to co-exist with the very thing that was going to take them out. What are you CHOOSING to co-exist with today? A thought? An attitude? A behavior? A habit? Once fear sets in and conviction hits us like a flood, we are quick to cry out and beg God for mercy out of our own desperation and of course He grants us peace out of His loving and tender heart. But then comes complacency and more disobedience and then we are on the death cycle again.

test2Judges 2:16-23 –  Then the Lord raised up judges, who saved them out of the hands of these raiders. 17 Yet they would not listen to their judges but prostituted themselves to other gods and worshiped them. They quickly turned from the ways of their ancestors, who had been obedient to the Lord’s commands. 18 Whenever theLord raised up a judge for them, he was with the judge and saved them out of the hands of their enemies as long as the judge lived; for the Lord relentedbecause of their groaning under those who oppressed and afflicted them. 19 But when the judge died, the people returned to ways even more corrupt than those of their ancestors, following other gods and serving and worshiping them. They refused to give up their evil practices and stubborn ways. 20 Therefore the Lord was very angry with Israel and said, “Because this nation has violated the covenant I ordained for their ancestors and has not listened to me, 21 I will no longer drive out before them any of the nations Joshua left when he died. 22 I will use them to test Israel and see whether they will keep the way of the Lord and walk in it as their ancestors did.” 23 The Lord had allowed those nations to remain; he did not drive them out at once by giving them into the hands of Joshua.

This is what I LOVE about the Bible. It teaches us how to live. We may not be driving out physical people from our territory and promised land, but we have other things that we idolize and hold onto for dear life that are just as damaging to our own walk with Jesus. We should be able to learn from the mistakes of the past, stop allowing “SELF” to get in the way, and we definitely need to stop turning a blind eye to the sin around us as if it really isn’t there. We are our brother’s keeper. THOUSANDS of years ago, the same thing that happens today was taking place then. When will we ever learn? Are you in the Test???

test4To further your reading, and to dive a bit deeper, consider this from James 1:14-15 – but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

Excuses are the nails that build a house of failure. Our own evil thoughts and wrong actions should not be followed by a list of silly excuses when our house is built on Jesus as the foundation and rock. We need to take responsibility for our own actions so that we can move away from them and closer to grace.
