Joshua 24:14-15 – “Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. 15 But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

asforme2The question for me today is…Who are my man-made idols? What do I put before God and His faithfulness? What is controlling me? Pride? Arrogance? Discord? Jealousy? Other’s imperfections that drive me insane? Am I being controlled by the Spirit of God or am I allowing everything else in my life to rise above His voice and clamor for my attention?

Following the crowd is SO EASY to do and I even find myself entangled in the decisions and attitudes of others on a daily basis. I don’t like to admit that at all, but it’s the truth and the truth can only set me free. I am tired of living of a life for others and forgetting about myself and my walk with Jesus in the process. Who are we following? And more importantly, how are we leading? We must be careful to love the Lord our God above all.

To further your reading, and to dive a bit deeper, consider this from Deuteronomy 10:12-13 –  And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, 13 and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?

asforme3To “Fear” God means to respect Him, walk in His ways, love Him, serve Him, and obey Him. That’s ALL He asks of us. There is nothing more we can do in our own strength to please our Savior and God. Is it too hard a thing to be His servant? Then why all the complaining and grumbling about how hard life is? Just walk it out! He is right beside us and will never leave us!
