Joshua 10:6-15 – The Gibeonites then sent word to Joshua in the camp at Gilgal: “Do not abandon your servants. Come up to us quickly and save us! Help us, because all the Amorite kings from the hill country have joined forces against us.” 7 So Joshua marched up from Gilgal with his entire army, including all the best fighting men. 8 The Lord said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them; I have given them into your hand. Not one of them will be able to withstand you.” 9 After an all-night march from Gilgal, Joshua took them by surprise. 10 The Lordthrew them into confusion before Israel, so Joshua and the Israelites defeated them completely at Gibeon. Israel pursued them along the road going up to Beth Horon and cut them down all the way to Azekah and Makkedah. 11 As they fled before Israel on the road down from Beth Horon to Azekah, the Lord hurled large hailstones down on them, and more of them died from the hail than were killed by the swords of the Israelites. 12 On the day the Lord gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the Lordin the presence of Israel: “Sun, stand still over Gibeon, and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.” 13 So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies, as it is written in the Book of Jashar. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. 14 There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the Lordlistened to a human being. Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel! 15 Then Joshua returned with all Israel to the camp at Gilgal.

sun2Can you imagine a battle such as the one Joshua was fighting with Gibeon? We face battles of all kinds EVERY SINGLE day and we pray out to God constantly for Him to provide a miracle in our lives. We do not have to face our battles ALONE; but, our physical weapons are doomed in defeat in the mighty spiritual battles we face everyday.

Where is our faith? So much speculation revolves around the day the sun stood still. But who really cares when we have a God who created the sun and all the stars in the universe. The question remains…where is your FAITH? Do you believe? Is God not big enough for your problem? Does He not see what is going on? Have you asked for His assistance?

We WILL face opposition. That is a given. But what will we do with that opposition? Run and hide when the going gets tough? Forget that our “Yes” needs to be our “Yes” and decide to walk away from any commitment? What about what God says, “Do not be afraid of the; I have given them into your hand. Not one of them will be able to withstand you.”? How soon we forget the promise. NOTHING is too hard for our God!!

sun3What about our prayers? Are they just foxhole prayers that beg for relief only when we think we need it? Or are we truly coming to the Lord in humility and giving Him all the praise before we so selfishly ask for His guidance and protection?

I bet Joshua had no idea exactly how long, deep, and wide was God’s love for him!! Don’t take your small miracles for granted. Even the smallest of things He does for us deserves our praise! Thank Him for all of it and don’t be discouraged when the battle is in full swing around you! God is in control of ALL. Joshua had been decieved by the Gibeonites and he could have very well told them, “No, thank you. You should get what you deserve”, when they called for his help. How integritous are we when it comes to helping others who have hurt us. Accept the apology you may never get, rise above, and watch God MOVE!!

sun4To further your reading, and to dive a bit deeper, consider this from Jeremiah 32:27“I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?”

God tells us what He is going to do. His presence is in the Word that springs out of it living water for us all to partake in. The question is….are we listening to Him? Can we discern the still, small voice as it reminds us daily of WHO HE IS?
