How many times do we hold onto secret sin in our lives and hope that no one can see it?
Numbers 32:23 – “But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the Lord; and you may be sure that your sin will find you out.”
Here is a warning that we should take heed to:
Everything that happens in the dark will be revealed in the Light of Truth.
I have been given a promise in my life, but there are things I am holding onto for dear life because I am so accustomed to having them a part of me. What are those things? Jealousy, Fear, Doubt, Worry. Am I trusting God to do things I can’t do in my own strength when everything else around me is falling apart? That’s a question I don’t have an answer for today. The Sunday School answer is “YES, I trust God even when I can’t trace Him,” but if I am going to get real honest with myself, I must say that I can’t answer that way truthfully all the time. I am human and I fail at faith on a daily basis.
What is God speaking to you that you are not doing? What instruction is He giving that you are ignoring? We must be willing to drive out the inhabitants that we welcomed into our spirits long ago that have taken up refuge in our “homes”.
We, like the Israelites, have done our share of wandering and have had our times of discouragement, but it’s past time to move toward Canaan.
We will find out later on that the Israelites did not completely obey the Lord because they didn’t completely understand His ways and that eventually led to compromise and corruption. WOW.
If we don’t follow His instruction carefully on how to remove the things in our lives that hold us hostage, it will be harder to accomplish later. Each time we tell the Lord, “No”, the next time that same situation comes up, it’s even easier to slip into sin. Are you afraid of the sin in your life? Does it seem harmless and attractive to you? Is it a bad habit, an unhealthy relationship, a lifestyle choice? We need to take the warnings from the Lord and move into our Promised Land with EASE and GRACE!!!
Numbers 33:55 – “’But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land, those you allow to remain will become barbs in your eyes and thorns in your sides. They will give you trouble in the land where you will live.’”

To further your reading, and to dive a bit deeper, consider this from 1 Corinthians 9:24-26 – Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air.
Both freedom and discipline are important tools we have to use for God’s service. We are not showing discipline when we refuse to look in the mirror and see only what we want to see instead of what God is trying to show us. Who is the problem? We are. We are running toward our heavenly reward but we cannot run an effective race with a ton of baggage attached to our backs. We must train diligently and remember that our reward is in heaven!
