Leviticus 6:8-13 – The Lord said to Moses: 9 “Give Aaron and his sons this command: ‘These are the regulations for the burnt offering: The burnt offering is to remain on the altar hearth throughout the night, till morning, and the fire must be kept burning on the altar. 10 The priest shall then put on his linen clothes, with linen undergarments next to his body, and shall remove the ashes of the burnt offering that the fire has consumed on the altar and place them beside the altar. 11 Then he is to take off these clothes and put on others, and carry the ashes outside the camp to a place that is ceremonially clean. 12 The fire on the altar must be kept burning; it must not go out. Every morning the priest is to add firewood and arrange the burnt offering on the fire and burn the fat of the fellowship offerings on it. 13 The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously; it must not go out.
Is God’s fire present in your life? Are you offering yourself and sacrificing daily for the benefit of the Kingdom? The altar was there as a place for people to atone for their sins. You don’t see sacrificial altars in the New Testament because JESUS was our sacrificial lamb that atoned for the sins of the WHOLE world. I thank God everyday that when we sin, we don’t have to go slaughter an animal and burn it in order to be set free from our entanglements. What would that look like today? It sure wouldn’t be pretty with as much craziness taking place on a daily base around us. So why is it so HARD for people to lay aside their pride and kneel at the altar of forgiveness in true humility and bow before man and God and thank Him for new mercies? Altars at churches are empty. People are not praying. It’s one thing to pray in your comfortable cushioned chair on a Sunday morning. It’s quite another to get on your knees in front of a congregation. But there is FREEDOM and a sweet release that takes place in that moment of complete surrender.
Are you keeping the fire burning? Is your fire going out the second you walk out the door of your sanctuary? Are you adding kindling to it by studying the Word of God on a daily basis? Are you allowing the Holy Spirit to breath on it to make it burn brighter? Are you stoking it with the Truth of your salvation? The fire must not go out!
Even when the squirrels come to play in our minds, even when we don’t feel like doing something because our comfortable bed is so much more enticing, even when we have doubts and fears, His FIRE should be ever present! The sacrifice was Jesus, and His Fire inside of us!
Please do not hide your fire under a rock! Shine, for the world to see!

To further your reading, and to dive a bit deeper, consider this from Hebrews 10:15-25 – The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says: 16 “This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.” 17 Then he adds: “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.” 18 And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary. 19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Christ forgives completely! We, as believers, may walk into the presence of God at ANY TIME with sincere and pure worship. We must evaluate our hearts and motives according to the Word of God! By this law we are taught to keep up in our minds a constant disposition to all acts of piety and devotion, an habitual affection to divine things, so as to be always ready to every good word and work. We must not only not quench the Spirit, but we must stir up the gift that is in us. Though we be not always sacrificing, yet we must keep the fire of holy love always burning; and thus we must pray always.
