follow2How many of us put on a robe of self-righteousness instead of a love and begin to judge others as if we aren’t messed up all by ourselves? If we should really speak (and maybe I should just say ME so not to offend anyone) what was going through my head then I could somedays cause a whole lot of chaos and confusion. Resentments would pop up so fast my head would spin.

Exodus 23:1-9 – “Do not spread false reports. Do not help a guilty person by being a malicious witness. 2 “Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd, 3 and do not show favoritism to a poor person in a lawsuit. 4 “If you come across your enemy’s ox or donkey wandering off, be sure to return it. 5 If you see the donkey of someone who hates you fallen down under its load, do not leave it there; be sure you help them with it. 6 “Do not deny justice to your poor people in their lawsuits. 7 Have nothing to do with a false charge and do not put an innocent or honest person to death, for I will not acquit the guilty. 8 “Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds those who see and twists the words of the innocent. 9 “Do not oppress a foreigner; you yourselves know how it feels to be foreigners, because you were foreigners in Egypt.”

follow1Jesus has one question for us that will ring in our ears for eternity. “Do you love Me?”

What do we do everyday that proves our love? What words are spoken out of our mouths that show our love for Him and for His people? What about our actions? Do we spout off at people, gossip about them behind their back? Do we plot against them because we don’t like change? Are we jealous? Are we looking at ourselves when we feel dissension or are we always pointing the finger and following the crowd? Are we being uplifting and edifying others or are we speaking negatively over eveything? Is that showing LOVE? NO!!!!

Peter denied Jesus THREE times before the crucifixion and then was given a chance to show his love to Christ when Jesus said, “Follow Me.” (see related Scriptures below)

follow3If we are following Christ, why are we not willing to follow those He put in leadership over us? Where does this self-seeking, self-righteous, jealous anger come from?? It’s not from the Lord.

Peter did NOT say, “Follow where? When? How? What about MY way? What about what I WANT???? What about ME????” No, Peter realized that if he truly LOVED CHRIST, he would be willing to go, no questions asked. Peter knew that he would find himself in difficult situations; but he would go, without a fight. Are you REALLY willing to love like HE loves? Walk where He walks? Go where He leads? Support those who are bleeding and leading? Or are you just turning your back and walking away??? The CHOICE is yours. Love others above yourself for once and BE THE CHANGE you want to see…IN LOVE. God is LOVE, change is inevitable, and we are not the center of the universe.

follow5I love the last part. It says “You yourselves know how it feels to be foreigners, because you were foreigners in Egypt.” What is your Egypt? Where in your own mind was your land of slavery? What were you delivered from when Salvation came in like a flood and you were FORGIVEN??? What were you a hostage to and how soon did you forget? I’m preaching to myself today folks. This stuff is hard but so worth it in the end!!!

Exodus 22-30 is a tough read, I know. It’s so very important to see that God had to align His people with regulations so to cut back on chaos and confusion, which He is not the author of. Thanks for holding tight today and don’t give up!

follow4To further your reading, and to dive a bit deeper, consider this from Matthew 18:15-16 – “If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. 16 But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’

The goal in all of this is to bring about repentance while keeping a lid on the public awareness of the sin. Why would we broadcast these things at large other than to hurt someone else? We are our brothers keeper, and we are to love our neighbor as ourself, so show Love and compassion toward one another always!! Even in disputes!!!
