Galatians 5:22-25 – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against suchthings there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
Life is a marathon, not a sprint, in which all the runners jump off the starting line in hopeful anticipation of running strong the miles upon miles that lie before them. The map is set and for one to run out of bounds would mean disqualification from the prize at the eternal finish line. It is a race of epic proportions and a huge finish if one is to stay in the race, running alongside the Spirit.
Sometimes we veer off course, following others when they choose to take a hard left. Nothing sucks worse than standing at a crossroad, breathless, muscles aching, watching others run in a direction that you know you can’t go, especially those closest to us. What do you do?
You cry a few tears, stretch your sore legs, and then keep your eyes fixed on the goal and the marked road at the horizon. You have a CHOICE. One quick breath and you are soaring again down a lonely road toward your purpose and destiny!
Two things Susan Haynes Brogan said to me as I watched one person after another walk out of my life and I chose the solitary road:
1) “When people leave….let them leave.”
2) “Though NONE go with me…I will follow.”
Hebrews 12:1-3 – Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
