Do you remember the game we played as kids where the teacher would whisper a secret to a child, then have the child tell it to the next child in a whisper, and the news would travel down the line to the last child? Do you also remember that it NEVER made it down the line in its original context? As a kid, I always thought that was so funny. I would laugh uncontrollably as the whisper came to me and I passed it along to someone else. When the teacher would tell us what she had originally said, you would find me on the floor in a fit of giggles!! This game isn’t so funny as an adult.
HELLO!?!?!?!!?! We are adults, right? We deal with adults….RIGHT?!?! Why does this VERY SAME THING still happen today? Is it because of something we are not doing right? Sometimes the first place to look is into my own heart to find truth in situations that baffle me. Maybe I don’t have enough compassion. Maybe I don’t have enough sympathy for where people are at any given moment that would lead them to act like 5 year old kids on the playground. Maybe I am too harsh. Maybe, maybe, maybe…..Here is what God says:
2 Corinthians 4:17-18 – For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
There is a greater purpose to our suffering. Our momentary troubles are not here to diminish our faith or make us delusional. When I am feeling shut out or isolated, God is really at work then and NOTHING can separate me from His love.
James 1:2-4 – Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
I have a choice. I can sit by and blame everyone else around me for my pain and suffering, or I can see my part and CHOOSE JOY and I can praise God through the storm. Every situation is a chance for me to grow in Christ and to become more like Him. The lesson from my Teacher today? “Be humble, be patient, the battle is already won and you are fighting FROM victory. Have joy, be kind, be compassionate. Think of where others are in their walk and pray for those who persecute you. Lift up My Name. Allow your trials and troubles to draw closer to me. Move from problem to prayer and allow Me to move on your behalf.”
This is a secret that I will not keep to myself and I sure won’t allow it to pass down the line in a confusing mess! The person at the end of this will know the TRUTH!!!
