direction1How many of us walk around in circles? We are unsure of where to go, how to get there, what road to take, which voice to listen to. The enemy wants us confused and off the beaten path.

There was a time not so long ago, 3 days after I stepped across the threshold of Jacob’s Well Ministries for the first time, when I begged them to pull out a map and show me where on the planet I was. I was completely oblivious to my whereabouts and it nearly drove me insane. To me, nothing feels worse than not knowing where I even exist on this small blue earth. What a terrifying feeling for the control freak I used to be. I am not directionally challenged in the physical realm anymore. I use my Iphone maps nearly everywhere I go, even if I already know the way. It’s the sense of false security I get in the desperate hope of not getting lost since I am so easily distracted. I beg others to use the app that can get you anywhere and will speak to you in the accent of your choice just so I don’t have to tell them directions on how to get to my location. I still get lost in the spiritual, because I forget to listen to the still, small voice.

direction2Isaiah 30:21 (NIV) – Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

I have a very dear friend who I recently introduced to “Maps” share a funny story with me. He said, “I knew how to follow the blue line, but I did not know that you could hit ‘START’ and the voice would tell you exactly which turn to take.” Upon that revelation, God gave me one of His own. The Lord spoke to me and said, “Isn’t that just something? My people get distracted by phone calls or text messages as the drive the path I intended for them and they in turn, without thinking, go off the trail with the blue line which points them in the way to go. Other distractions lead them to dead ends, through needless traffic stops because they are moving too quickly out of haste, and off cliffs because they have sabatoged themselves and no longer even care about the road they were traveling. None of them hit ‘START’ which would have opened their ears to hear My Voice beckoning them and showing them the way to go with ease.”

direction3WOW! How many times have we only thought we were doing right just by following the blue line and then allowed the enemy ample time to get into our weary minds on long journeys into the middle of seemingly nowhere where God’s promise awaited us? We aren’t always supposed to know where we are going, but God offers us His direction. All we have to do is ask.

Are you going to hit the “START” button today and give yourself a break from trying to do everything in your own strength?

direction4Psalm 119:1-8 (MSG) – 1-8 You’re blessed when you stay on course, walking steadily on the road revealed by God. You’re blessed when you follow his directions, doing your best to find him. That’s right—you don’t go off on your own; you walk straight along the road he set. You, God, prescribed the right way to live; now you expect us to live it. Oh, that my steps might be steady, keeping to the course you set; then I’d never have any regrets in comparing my life with your counsel. I thank you for speaking straight from your heart; I learn the pattern of your righteous ways. I’m going to do what you tell me to do; don’t ever walk off and leave me.
