Mark 11:12-14; 20-21 – The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. 13 Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. 14 Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it.

pass120 In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. 21 Peter remembered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!”

pass2From this scripture, I know that it wasn’t the season for figs. It says so right in the text. Figs bloom in late spring and early fall and this was EARLY spring. The tree itself LOOKED fruitful. It had all the markings of being a good fruit bearing tree but it had no fruit. I love how in the King James version it says this in verse 14 – ‘And Jesus answered and said unto it.’. Jesus was passing by and he expected this tree to have fruit because all of its leaves were in. I wonder what the fig tree said to Jesus before He ANSWERED it. If it was like me, it was giving Him a whole bunch of excuses as to why there was no fruit on it’s leafy branches. It wasn’t in season after all. The tree probably made mention that it the fault of someone or something else (the person who planted it, the weather, the ground it was in, etc) and gave a bunch of “BUTS” and excuses before Jesus ANSWERED the tree and cursed it.

pass4John 15:16 – You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit – fruit that will last – and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.

Here is what I am getting at…I can look like I bear fruits of the spirit. I can put on a charade like no other because I became very good at doing that for the enemy. I can put out some leaves and make everyone else think I have good fruit (IN or OUT of season). Here is the kicker. JESUS IS ALWAYS PASSING BY. When my Lord passes by, do I want to just LOOK good or do I want to BE good? In or out of season, I need to continue to bear the fruits of His Spirit because I don’t want to be cursed and just wither away. He sees everything. He knows my heart. He knows if I am bearing good fruit or not and He knows before I even have to tell Him. And I want His answer to me to be: “Well done, good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:23)

pass3Galatians 5:22-23 – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control.

I am expected to bear unexpected fruit in supernatural ways for my Savior because He is IN ME and is my fertilizer, my water, my trunk and strong branches!!
