Genesis 6:22 (NIV) – Noah did everything, just as God commanded him.

command1The world was flooded with evil, waves upon waves of sin swept over the hearts of those who once loved God. Adam and Eve’s descendants ran rampart, continuing to choose the easy way out and life was a circus for most. But Noah, he walked faithfully with God. Was he without sin? Absolutely not. In fact, he got plastered one day because of the overwhelming circumstances surrounding him and passed out naked in a cave only to be ridiculed by his son. However, his obedience to long term commitment changed the course of all creation, because he did ALL that the Lord commanded him.

Do you think his neighbors laughed at him? Do you think he may have faced opposition while preparing food and building rooms on a massive ship where there was no water that would hold a remnant of all living creatures? Do you think he completely understood his calling, sometimes to the point of even questioning God?

God doesn’t call us to “easy”, He calls us to “worth it”. He calls us to do some pretty wacky things, like standing at the foot of a swollen river which we KNOW has the potential to sweep us under and cause us to drown.

command2

Joshua 3:1-4, 9-13 (NIV) – Early in the morning Joshua and all the Israelites set out from Shittim and went to the Jordan, where they camped before crossing over. 2 After three daysthe officers went throughout the camp, 3 giving orders to the people: “When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the Levitical priests carrying it, you are to move out from your positions and follow it. 4 Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before. But keep a distance of about two thousand cubits between you and the ark; do not go near it.”

Joshua said to the Israelites, “Come here and listen to the words of the Lordyour God. 10 This is how you will know that the living God is among you and that he will certainly drive out before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites. 11 See, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth will go into the Jordan ahead of you. 12 Now then, choose twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one from each tribe. 13 And as soon as the priests who carry the ark of the Lord—the Lord of all the earth—set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream will be cut off and stand up in a heap.”

Are we really listening? Are we doing ALL that He commanded us to do?

command3Look people, look around you! Take a look at the wasteland, the hungry, the poor. Open your eyes to the deception, the fear, the hopelessness. STOP PRETENDING THAT IT DOESN’T EXIST!! We live in a fallen, broken world that only gets worse by the day. Are you willing? Are you ready? Can you lay aside all the things that SEEM to make sense and do the ONE thing that doesn’t make sense? Are you going to build your ship, or set foot in that river? Can you be the small flame that has the potential to reach the world? It may be that you have never been this way before, but God orders our steps! It’s up to us to STEP. Water is a huge theme in the Bible. Water washed away the sin of the world and Noah became the new father of man. Joshua led millions across the Jordan riverbank and the nation of Israel was born into it’s heritage. Then Jesus came, and offered us living water so we would never thirst again. He shouted into a crowd:

John 7:37-38 (NIV) –  On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”

command4RIVERS OF LIVING WATER FLOW WITHIN YOU. So stepping into one, or riding in a ship on one, or doing the things God has called you to do should be easy, because you will float, you WILL NOT SINK! You are water, He is water in you, and YOU have purpose! Put your name there….___________ did all that the Lord commanded!!!

Genesis 7:5 (NIV) – And Noah did all that the Lord commanded him.
