It is my choice to serve God. I have choices to make everyday…what time to get up, what to eat, sugar or sweetner, what to wear, which earrings, what time to leave, where to go, who to talk to, how to talk to them, blue or black, up or down, left or right, which utensil to use…you get the picture. Before Christ, my choices went like this…where to sleep, who to steal from, how much to steal, where to walk to, rest or no rest, which street to hustle from, drugs or alcohol, etc. It was a point in my life when I divorced myself from an Absolute Source of absolute truth and to simply do whatever was right in my own eyes. All these choices are important and have a direct impact on my life, small or big, but the most important choice I will ever make is the choice to follow Jesus. I really don’t understand why people can choose the things of life on a daily basis, then make a huge deal around making choices for the Kingdom of God. At that point, it then has to be discussed, contemplated, mulled over, thought about, talked about, and cried over. Why is that? Do they just want people around them to know they are about to make a good choice? Why not just make it and move further into His grace? Hmmmmm….
Joshua 24:15 – But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day who you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.
I choose to follow God regardless of what others around me are doing. Though none go with me, I choose HIM. Who or what will control me today? I can choose blessings or curses. It’s up to ME. Deuteronomy 28 sums it up best. Plain and simple. In ink. Outlined for the world to read. Consequences of CHOICES.
Deuteronomy 28:1-2 – If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. 2 All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God.
Deuteronomy 28:15 – However, if you do not obey the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you.
If I choose to do my own thing in my own way then I will not reap the rewards of being in constant fellowship with Jesus. I will sit idly by and watch the world go around me and lose my mind in the process of contemplating my bad choices. I will become angry, bitter, upset and unloving. Everything will begin to get on my nerves and I will not be happy and others around me will suffer.
Matthew 6:33 – But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Everything else in the world competes for first place in my life. The world around me can be very loud and obnoxious at times. I have to CHOOSE to put God first in all of it. All=Everything.
Pastor T says, “Sin will take you farther than you want to stray, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost more than you want to pay.”
Am I going to believe the world or am I going to believe God?
John 7:17-18 – Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own. 18 Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.
